Sie erinnern sich an das berühmte Foto, das 1945 am Times Square in New York aufgenommen wurde? Inmitten der Menschenmenge, die gerade von der Beendigung des Kriegs erfahren hat und ausgelassen feiert, nimmt ein Matrose spontan eine neben ihm stehende Krankenschwester in den Arm und küsst sie. Das Bild “Der Kuss” von LIFE-Fotograf Alfred Eisenstaedt wurde zur Ikone. Die Skulptur “Embracing Peace” von Seward Johnson rekonstruiert das berühmte Bild. Sie steht in San Diego am Hafen, direkt neben dem Museum der Marine, die der Stadt die Skulptur gestiftet hat.

You remember the famous photo taken on Times Square in New York in 1945? People have just learnt about the end of World War II. In a crowd of people celebrating exuberantly, a sailor spontaneously embraces a nurse standing next to him and kisses her. The picture “The Kiss” by LIFE photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt became an icon. The sculpture “Embracing Peace” by Seward Johnson reconstructs the famous picture. It’s located at San Diego’s harbourfront, next to the museum of the navy who donated the sculpture to the town.
