Die Strandpromenade (English text s. below).
Tijuana, Mexiko. – Wintertag in “Tijuana Playas”, am Strand von Tijuana. Heute sind nur wenige Leute auf der Strandpromenade unterwegs, aber der Mango-Verkäufer hat trotzdem seinen Stand aufgebaut. Diesmal braucht er den Sonnenschirm nicht aufzuspannen, der Himmel ist verhangen.
Die Häuserwände und Mauern an der Strandpromenade sind voller Wandbilder und Graffiti. Künstlerisch, chaotisch, rebellisch oder verträumt. Nicht jedes Bild ist gelungen, aber alle strahlen Vitalität aus, so wie Tijuana selbst.
Auf der anderen Seite das Meer. Wir sind nur einen Kilometer von der mexikanisch-amerikanischen Grenze entfernt. Ganz in der Ferne können wir die Silhouette von San Diego sehen (zweites Foto). Die USA so nah – und doch so fern.

The Boardwalk.
Tijuana, Mexico. – A winter day in “Tijuana Playas”, on Tijuana’s beach. There are only a few people on the boardwalk today but the mango seller has built up his stall all the same. This time he doesn’t have to put up his sunshade, the sky is overcast.
You can see lots of murals painted on the wall of houses and other walls. Artistic, chaotic, rebellious or dreamy. Not every picture is good, but all of them radiate vitality, such as Tijuana does.
On the other side there’s the ocean. We are less than a mile away from the Mexican-American border. In the distance you can see the skyline of San Diego (second photo). The USA are so close – and still so far away.
