Farbenfroh, bedrohlich, oft Tieren, Göttern oder Fantasiefiguren nachempfunden – die Maske ist identitätsstiftend für den Luchador.
Auf allen Märkten in Mexiko ist auch ein Verkaufsstand für Lucha-Libre-Kostüme zu finden. Jedes Kind wird hier zum mexikanischen Helden.

Tijuana, Mexico. – Lucha libre, Mexican wrestling, is cult in Mexico. And the luchadores (fighters) are Mexican heroes. It’s a matter of honour for a fan to wear the mask of his favourite fighter at the match.
Colourful, threatening, often modelled on animals, gods or phantasy figures – the mask is an integral part of the fighter’s identity.
At all markets in Mexico you can find a stand selling lucha libre costumes. Every child turns here into a Mexican hero.
