San Diego:
1915 fand die Ausstellung “Panama-California Exposition” in San Diego statt, um die Eröffnung des Panama-Kanals und San Diego als ersten amerikanischen Hafen auf der Nordroute zu feiern. Als die Aussteller wieder abreisten, ließen sie die exotischen Tiere der Ausstellung einfach in San Diego zurück. Erst wusste man nicht, wohin mit den Tieren, dann gründete man ein Jahr später einen Zoo. Daraus entwickelte sich der größte und meistbesuchte Tierpark der USA. Einige Impressionen unseres Besuchs …

The “Panama-California Exposition” was held in San Diego in 1915 to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal and the fact that San Diego was the first US port on the North route. When the exhibitors left they abandoned the exotic animals of the exposition. At first, the citizens didn’t know what to do with them, then, a year later, they founded a zoo.
