The café is one of 87 “bares notables” of Buenos Aires. These are the outstanding historic café-restaurants which are part of the city’s cultural heritage.

Opened in 1884 and renovated in 2001, the Café de Las Violetas (literally “café of violets”) is the most beautiful café of Buenos Aires with its stained glass and high colums in Art Decó style. As it is situated in the Almago neighbourhood and on the fringes of the usual tourist routes, travel guides don’t highlight it the same way as they do the historic cafés in the tourist centers.
