Die riesige Hoover-Talsperre staut den Fluss Colorado zum Lake Mead und versorgt Nevada, Arizona und Kalifornien mit Wasser und Elektrizität. Die Talsperre ist schuld, dass aus dem kleinen Wüstennest Las Vegas die Spieler-Metropole entstand. Die Tausenden von Arbeiter, die die Staumauer von 1931-36 bauten, fuhren in ihrer Freizeit nach Las Vegas, weil nur dort Glücksspiel und Alkohol erlaubt waren.

The gigantic Hoover Dam dams the Colorado River forming the reservoir Lake Mead and provides Nevada, Arizona and California with water and electricity. It’s because of the dam that the small desert place Las Vegas became the gambler metropolis. The thousands of workers building the dam from 1931 to 1935 went to Las Vegas in their free time because it was only there that gambling and alcohol were allowed.
